Wisdom - Doubt - Promise

 James 1

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

God is Wonderful

He is liberal in giving.

Especially when we ask for wisdom He is very liberal.

He does not look at our qualifications,  He does not see our status, but He gives.

When God gives, what should man do?

Receive

Many people don't ask, so they don't receive.

Some people ask , but don't receive.

Few ask and receive

Doubt is the biggest hindrance for receiving from God.

Double minded/ Unstable mind

He believes in God, but again a doubt comes, then he becomes double minded.

Many people rebuke devil for their not receving.

But you should rebuke your mind first.

this double minded person will not receive anything from the Lord.

Stable ,fixed .

A mind planted in the Word of God.

8 And in Lystra a certain man without strength in his feet was sitting, a cripple from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. 9 This man heard Paul speaking. [c]Paul, observing him intently and seeing that he had faith to be healed, 10 said with a loud voice, “Stand up straight on your feet!” And he leaped and walked. 11

God is a giver.

Doubt - weakens faith

James 1: 6 for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 

Double minded:

A mind that is divided

Faith and Fear cannot dwell together.

Being one with the promise

Word of God is established forever

I am not moved by what I see and hear. Am moved by what I believe

Dealing with Mind

1 Peter 1:13

13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 

Before Mary received Jesus in her womb, She received the word in her mind.

Luke 1:38

38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.”

Believer in heart.

Doubter in mind.

What word is taking flesh?

A believer's word in the spirit,  an unbeliever's word in the mind.

Punish disobedience

2 Corinthians 10:3-6

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not [a]carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Be very hard on the unrenewed self

Elijah and the Widow

8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, 9 “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”

12 So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a [a]jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

13 And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. 14 For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ”

15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 16 The bin of flour was not used up, nor did the jar of oil run dry, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke by Elijah.

this widow is no Shunammite woman to provide for Elijah.

Elijah knows God commanded this woman, but she is a widow and had nothing.

But Elijah did not doubt

Widow didnot doubt

Becoming One with the Promise of God.
