Do not quench the Spirt

DONOT QUENCH THE HOLYSPIRIT.
I Corinthians 6:19‭-‬20 NKJV
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who  is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Our bodies are temple of Holy Spirit.
If you pay a price and buy something , it becomes yours.
And you pay price for what brings glory to you. That thing that was bought should bring glory to you.
If you bought a house or a car or anything, you pay a price and you feel pride in it.
Lord Jesus paid the price on the cross. And when the price was paid then becomes the property of the owner.
Body and Spirit both should glorify God.
And after the Lord bought us, His Holy Spirit resides in us and we are called the temple of Holy Spirit.
And this temple should reveal the glory of the Owner Lord Jesus Christ.
When a believer yields to the  Holy Spirit residing inside, the greater the glory is.
But often times we see the temples are sick, weary, grumpy, anxious, broken down, all sorts of issues with the temple.
The reason many believers dot not allow/yield to  the Spirit of God for greater work
Many times we quench the Spirit of God.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Ephesians 4:30 NKJV

When you accepted Lord Jesus, He sealed you with HolySpirit.

1 Thessalonians 5:19
Do not quench the Spirit.

The Word Quench is associated with two things   one Water and other Fire.

quench ones thirst - to satisfy the thirst of a person
but it says Quench the Fire means extinguish the fire.

Quench means Put off the fire.

When the Lord descends , he descends as fire.

Exodus 19:17 - Fire
17 Then Moses led the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain. 18 Mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because the Lord descended on it in fire

Luke 3:16 - Fire
John answered them all, “I baptize you with[b] water. But one who is more powerful than I will come, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire.

Shedrach,Mesach,Abednego.

Daniel 3: 22
22 The king’s command was so urgent and the furnace so hot that the flames of the fire killed the soldiers who took up Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego,

There is fire in the furnace where Shedrach, Mesach, Abednego we're thrown into the furnace the fire was there but the violence of the fire was quenched.
There was fire, how do we know,  the people who threw them were caught in fire.
But by the faith, Shedrach, Mesach, Abednego  were able to quench the fire.

Hebrews 11:34 NKJV
quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

The Spirit of God is like fire.

In same way, the Spirit resides in every believer, but you could allow the fire to burn more and touch others  or you can quench the Spirit.

How do believers quench the Spirit?

Quench 1)Rebellion and  Complaining:
Isaiah 63:10

But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, And He fought against them.

Rebellion grieves Holy Spirit

Believers main test is always in obedience to faith and obedience to authorities.

When a believer is put under an authority , more than the mighty wonders and miracles a person can do, Holy Spirit takes Joy when a person obeys.
But when he rebels Holy Spirit grieves.

Complaining.
1 Thessalonians 5:16,17,18
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Numbers 14:2, 20-23
All the Israelites grumbled against Moses and Aaron, and the whole assembly said to them, “If only we had died in Egypt! Or in this wilderness!

20 The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them, as you asked. 21 Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the Lord fills the whole earth, 22 not one of those who saw my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times 23 not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their ancestors. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it.

Israelites  complained and were thinking of going back.
When there is grumbling, there is an attitude of turning back from faith.
When you are thankfulness, there is always joy.
You rejoice for the work that is finished, you rejoice for the hope that is in front.

Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace. Remember, there is Pillar of Cloud and Pillar of fire for people of Israel when they were in wilderness.

There is pillar of fire in the night.
Although there is fire , they lost the promise, Lord said No one who has treated Me with contempt will ever see the promise Land. And many perished in the wilderness.

How do we complain these days?
When challenges come, we reveal our grumbling by the actions we take.
Anything that is not out of faith is sin.

There can be fire, but you might be quenching the fire by your complaining.

Quench 2 ) Negligence.

Matthew 25:3‭-‬4 NKJV
Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them,  but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Matthew 25:8 NKJV
And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’

Wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

But foolish lamps are going out, because their oil is going out.

There are 2 aspects which led to this lamps going out.

1. Negligence:

When wise came with oil in their vessels, but foolish came without oil, they neglected about oil

We see that negligent character in many believers too. When we come to Church, for our prayers life, or our meditation of the Word, we have a negligent lifestyle. We see so many people who come to Church with that no preparation.

2. Oil
Oil repeesents the presence of God , presence of HolySpirit.

And this has to be purchased , bought with a price.

What is that we sacrifice for the sake of Kingdom of God.  We know of a parable where it says kingdom of heaven is like a man finding a treasure in the field and he hid it and went and sold everything he has and bought the field.

A believer can quench the HolySpirit if they are negligent towards the things of God, presence of God.

Psalm 95:10
For forty years I was grieved with that generation, And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts, And they do not know My ways.’
Psalms 95:10 NKJV

God is grieved when you don't know His ways.
You might be coming to Church forany years and still don't know His ways

Remember HolySpirit is like dove.
If a dove is disturbed, even a small disturbance the dove will fly away.

Genesis 8:9 NKJV
But the dove found no resting place for the sole of her foot, and she returned into the ark to him, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her, and drew her into the ark to himself.

Ichabod because Glory departed during Time of Eli.
HolySpirit like a dove
Noah.
